Vivian has been a member of Grace Community Church since her 8th-grade year in school. She attended Baylor University, graduated from the St. Louis Conservatory of Music and acquired her Masters of Music degree from Cleveland Institute of Music.
In 1995 Vivian felt a strong call that God was going to do something new in her life. Her job search turned to a missions / organization search. After a short-term missions trip to Russia, Vivian felt God calling her to work on the Caribbean Mercy Ship, a ministry under YWAM (Youth With A Mission). She worked on the ship for two years, then went to a Discipleship Training School for 6 months in Belize and then Spanish language school for 3 months in Guatemala.
Since 1998, Vivian has been working in an orphanage in Guatemala called Casa Bernabe (House of Encouragement / House of Discipleship). She is working with a Performing Arts Group in discipleship training and preparation for ministry outreach. She also heads up the music program which includes supervising the music classes in the school, directing the Performing Arts Group as well as organizing the 5 bands, 4 of which she directs. Vivian has organized the band kids to have the opportunity to travel to the USA and attend summer music camps for the past several years. The PAG each year does touring around Guatemala to share the gospel and give testimony of what God has been doing in the lives of the kids involved. That is the fulfillment of her mission goal: to reach kids a mile deep, and an inch wide (deeply invest/ discipleship), while also reaching out a mile wide, if only an inch deep spreading the seeds of the gospel.
Besides on campus ministry opportunities, Vivian has also been attending and participating in the body life of the Union Church of Guatemala. There she has found a place to use her horn in worship, her voice in choir and trios, her guitar with pickup worship bands, and she sometimes substitutes for the teacher in the ladies Bible Study. She rehearses weekly with the Brass Group of the Cristo Rey Lutheran Church and plays for their services 4th Sundays.
Vivian is also on the founding board of AsoCriGua which is the Association of Christian Orphanages in Guatemala. She is also working (2011) to start a Music Camp in Guatemala as an outreach ministry.
Vivian has since 2004, been enjoying the care of both CTEN and the "Vivian Team" (made up of lay persons from Bethel Church of Cleveland OH). The orphanage is part of the organization of Funproni(foundation for the protection of the orphan child) and works under the co-umbrella of Friends for Children Everywhere (FOCE) and the Verbo churches (one of the evangelical denominations in Guatemala) |
