Real People, Real Hearts

June 30, 2010 by Tom Brunson

Now that we've read more about David, Solomon, and other kings, let's get back to looking at David as "a man after God's own heart." We have a strong desire to divide people (especially in the Bible) into "good" and "bad" groups. The Old Testament especially shows people's faults (in contrast to God), so when we meet David we try very hard to see him as good in all aspects. Several years ago the leader of a claimed "Christian weight-loss program" stressed how important it was to get your heart right with God so you wouldn't sin, and pointed to David - claiming that since he was a man after God's own heart, David didn't have to worry about sin, because he couldn't sin.
